1992: Marilyn
Marilyn was one of five ducklings rescued by a PETA undercover investigator at Commonwealth Enterprises, a foie gras farm in New York state. For weeks, our investigator documented the horrible conditions at Commonwealth-sick and injured ducks carried by their necks, crammed into tiny cages, and pumped so full of food that they couldn't walk and had to push themselves along the floor with their wings.
One day, our investigator told his supervisor that he was going to visit his grandmother and asked if he could have some of the female ducklings. He put Marilyn and the four other ducklings his supervisor gave him in a box with food and water and went to meet another PETA employee, who had arranged for the ducklings to live on a large farm with their own pond.
Soon after, our investigator's efforts paid off again when he exposed the horrific conditions at Commonwealth and the company was charged with cruelty to animals.
