1986: Buddy
Buddy was rescued after eight months inside a testing laboratory. He was forced to inhale intense concentrations of a popular brand of hair spray for hours at a time, which left him permanently brain-damaged.
Buddy's story helped raise awareness about the horrors of testing cosmetics and household products on animals and prompted many caring consumers to put their compassion into action and buy only cruelty-free products. Today, hundreds of companies, including industry giants such as Revlon, Paul Mitchell, and Mary Kay, have banned cruel animal tests forever.
