1985: Martin
Martin was only 3 months old when he was adopted from an animal shelter. In many areas, pound seizure laws allow experimenters to buy animals from shelters. As a result, the animals who wind up in labs are often abandoned companions.
In a commercial testing laboratory, Martin would have been one of the millions of rabbits used to test everything from shampoo to drain cleaner. These tests are not required by law and do nothing to protect the consumer.
Fortunately, Martin was rescued in time. His new home included an indoor-outdoor run, fresh vegetables every day, and plenty of love.
